The coops have an open floor design to allow your chickens to scratch up the soil beneath the coop, enjoying fresh weeds, seeds and bugs. While you may choose to leave your coop stationary, they have been designed for easy maneuvering to a fresh area in your backyard. This gives the chickens a new patch of ground to scratch and gives you a weed free, fertilized area to plant in. These types of coops are sometimes called ‘chicken tractors’ due to their mobility.
If you live in a fox prone area or have a digging dog, you can purchase an optional wire mesh floor for your coop. The large sized mesh (with 10cm x 20cm rectangles) still enables your chickens to scratch the soil and at the same time gives you peace of mind about their safety overnight. These are available for an additional $40.
